NFL Preseason Odds: Patriots take on Panthers
August 19, 2014
We have reached Week 3 of the 2014 NFL preseason, and this is the week where traditionally most teams' starters will play into the third quarter to help get them ready for the regular season opener. And the sportsbooks have you covered for all the upcoming action with a complete set of NFL odds and prop bets for the start of a new season.
One of the more interesting matchups on Friday’s five-game slate pits the Carolina Panthers against the New England Patriots. Carolina rolled to 12 wins and an NFC South division title in 2013, but the Bodog projected win total for the Panthers is set at 8.5 with the betting moneyline heavily favoring the UNDER at -175.
While Bodog has yet to release its NFL preseason odds for this game, look for New England to open as a five to six-point home favorite with the total set around 45. Carolina comes into this inter-conference clash with an 0-4-1 record against the spread in five previous preseason games against the Patriots.
Another Friday game that should attract some solid action from the betting public is Jacksonville on the road against Detroit. Gus Bradley is the Jaguars' new head coach and he has gone on record as saying that rookie quarterback Blake Bortles will stay on the bench this season. The third overall pick in the draft is making that decision tough to stand by with two stellar performances in his first two preseason games.
Look for Bodog to open the Lions as 3-point favorites on the NFL preseason odds at home with the total line set around 45 points. Jacksonville is 1-1 SU in its first two preseason games with a 2-0 mark ATS. The total has stayed UNDER in both games. Detroit is also 1-1 SU (2-0 ATS) and the total has been split. The Lions are 14-3 ATS in their last 17 preseason games on the NFL betting lines.
Saturday’s action gets underway with Tampa Bay on the road against Buffalo in a game that will be broadcast nationally on the NFL Network. The Buccaneers’ new head coach Lovie Smith is still looking for his first win of the preseason following losses to Jacksonville and Miami both SU and ATS. Both games stayed UNDER the Bodog closing total line. The Bills have played three games so far and they are 1-2 both SU and ATS. The total stayed UNDER in two of the three games. Look for the Bills to open as 3-point favorites at home for this matchup.
